What is sebacic acid? What role does sebacic acid play in plasticizers?
[Alias] Sebacic acid, octanedicarboxylic acid, octanedicarboxylic acid.
[Molecular Formula] C10H18O4
[Structural Formula] HOOC (CH2) 8COOH
[Properties] Sebacic acid appears as white flaky or needle shaped crystals with a relative density of 1.207 (25 ℃), a melting point of 134.5 ℃, a boiling point of 294.5 ℃ (13.3kPa), and a refractive index of 1.422 (133.3 ℃). Decarboxylation temperature is 350-370 ℃. When heated to the melting point temperature, it can sublime. Industrial products are white powders with a slight fatty acid odor. They are slightly soluble in water and easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. Due to the presence of two carboxyl groups, they can generate two series of salts, esters, amides, and other natural products that exist in castor oil.
[Purpose] Organic synthetic raw material used for the synthesis of ester plasticizers such as diethyl sebacate, dibutyl sebacate, dinitronate sebacate, dioctyl sebacate, glycerol sebacate, etc. It is also used to manufacture nylon-610 and nylon-9 fibers. It is also an intermediate for manufacturing polymers such as polyamide, polyester, and polyurethane. It is also used to manufacture high-temperature lubricants, surfactants, epoxy resin curing agents, artificial fragrances, and cosmetics. It can also be used as a crosslinking agent for powder coatings, polyethylene modifier, etc.
[Brief Method]
① Castor oil is hydrolyzed with alkali to produce sodium ricinoleic acid soap, then acidified with sulfuric acid to produce ricinoleic acid, and then cresol and alkali are added to produce disodium sebacic acid. After acid neutralization, the monosodium sebacic acid salt is obtained, which can be further acidified with sulfuric acid to produce sebacic acid.
② Produced by fermentation of n-decane from petroleum.
[Safety and Protection] Packaged in woven bags lined with plastic bags, with a net weight of 25kg, 40kg, 45kg, or 50kg per bag. Store and transport according to regulations for flammable materials, and store in a cool and dry place.
