Thiourea is a commonly used reducing agent and sulfur-containing reagent in organic synthesis, mainly used for reducing internal peroxides and ozone oxides. It can also be used as an equivalent of nucleophilic hydrogen sulfide to synthesize thiols, sulfonic acids, sulfinates, and their acyl chlorides. It is also commonly used for the synthesis of heterocyclic amino thiazoles, pyrimidines, thiocyclopropanes, and methylamine sulfinates.
